Yet another fine Dexter Gordon Blue Note recording. Many Jazz musicians of the era have stated how much better life was for a black man in Europe than the US. Gordon himself felt the same. Like many bop musicians suffered from drug addiction and incarceration in the US so after a successful comeback including four solid records for Blue Note, Gordon moved to Europe. Bud Powell accompanies on piano, and as Bud couldn't learn any new music the result is an album of outstanding covers/jazz standards.
The RVG version includes two bonus tracks, the final track being Bud Powell stretching out on 'Like Someone in Love' which doesn't actually feature Gordon at all.

The album's title refers to where the recording was made, Gordon (who had moved to a year earlier) teaming up with fellow expatriates and, both Parisian residents, and native Parisian.
Powell, Clarke and Michelot, under the name The Three Bosses, had played together often in Paris since Powell moved there in 1959. The album was remastered by in 2003 and released as part of 's RVG Edition series. Contents. Music The original intention was for the pianist on the recording to be and for the music to be new compositions by Gordon. However, the actual pianist used was Bud Powell, who would not play new music, so were chosen during the rehearsal. The two tracks added to the CD release were originally issued by on Bud Powell's Alternate Takes in 1985. Critical reception gave it a maximum four-star rating and added it to the core collection, commenting that Gordon's playing on ' 'is one of his finest performances on record' and concluding that the album is 'a classic'.
